Education

In the United States, a Doctor of Pharmacy degree is required to obtain this position. This degree typically takes four years to complete after a student first earns a four-year bachelor's degree. In Canada, a four-year bachelor's degree in pharmacy is required.

Future Outlook

Employment of pharmacists is projected to decline 3 percent from 2019 to 2029. Many pharmacists work in in retail pharmacies and drug stores, which are expected to lose jobs as more people fill their prescriptions via mail order and online.

Work Environment

Pharmacists work in pharmacies, including those in drug, general merchandise, and grocery stores. They also work in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
