A high school diploma is generally the starting point, followed by professional helicopter flight training at a certified aviation school. In Canada, a Commercial Pilot Licence – Helicopter (CPL-H) requires a Category 1 medical certificate, ground-school training, written examinations, flight training, and at least 100 hours of helicopter flight time for the commercial licence. More advanced flying jobs require additional ratings, licences, and flight experience.
Helicopter pilots may work from airports, heliports, hospitals, remote sites, offshore facilities, or other locations depending on their specialty.
