Research engineers do research to find the best methods to improve technologies or procedures for completing technical projects within an organization.
A four-year bachelor's degree in engineering is necessary to obtain this position. A higher degree (master's or doctorate) in a related field, which may take an additional two-five years to earn, would be more valuable.
BALANCE: Labour demand and labour supply are expected to be broadly in line for this occupation group over the 2019-2028 period at the national level.
Research engineers generally work between an office and laboratory setting. They may also need to conduct site inspections as part of their research.
