Career Overview

Chiropractors use spinal adjustments and manipulation to treat patients with problems related to the neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, bones, muscles, etc.).

Education

To be a chiropractor, a person usually first obtains a four-year bachelor’s degree in any field of study. Then, one must earn a four-year Doctor of Chiropractic degree (DC). You must be ready to be in school for a long time to do this!

Future Outlook

Employment of chiropractors is projected to grow 4 percent from 2019 to 2029, about as fast as the average for all occupations. People across all age groups are increasingly becoming interested in integrative or complementary healthcare as a way to treat pain and improve overall wellness. Chiropractic care is appealing to patients because chiropractors use nonsurgical methods of treatment and do not prescribe drugs.

Work Environment

Chiropractors typically work in small group chiropractic practices. A fairly large number are self-employed.
